In Conversation with Jango Kett: Fusing Star Wars and Drum & Bass
The worlds of drum and bass and Star Wars might not seem like an obvious pairing, but for Jango Kett, the two have become inseparable. In just over a year, he has carved out a niche that blends deep, rolling basslines with the sci-fi mysticism of a galaxy far, far away. As the founder of The Bounty Hunter’s Guild, he’s built a thriving community of like-minded fans, uniting ravers and Jedi alike under one banner. We caught up with Jango Kett to talk about his journey, his music, and what the future holds for his ever-expanding empire.
You’ve created a truly unique space in the drum and bass scene, blending Star Wars with heavy basslines. How did this concept come about, and what inspired you to bring these two worlds together?
So I have actually been making Drum & Bass music for around 8 years now, but I found that as a producer, I was lacking a uniqueness, and with the ever-growing scene, I was never able to stand out above the crowd. I knew I needed to take a step back and have a good think about which direction I wanted to take my music career. So last year I spent many nights thinking of what I could do that just couldn't be ignored, something that people would see and instantly think, “Yeah that’s pretty sick”.
I’ve loved Star Wars from an early age as I grew up on the prequels, and I also have a love of Jump-Up DnB (especially the laser sounds), so why not fuse the two together? After a few days thinking of a name and a concept, Jango Kett was born. All that was next was to get to work creating music, mixes and building the suit!
Running a label alongside producing is no small feat. How has the journey been with The Bounty Hunter’s Guild, and what’s the vision behind it?
The last year has been amazing for The Guild! We have had 14 full releases and 11 free download releases on Soundcloud.
Since I create all the artwork and promotional material myself, it can sometimes be a challenge balancing all that with creating new music, keeping up with social media and having a family life too.
Thanks to good scheduling and time management, I have been able to keep on top of everything and have even managed to step it up with the label in the new year, with a new release dropping every friday.
The vision is to showcase new producers as well as myself and build relationships with these people so I can continue to work with them and grow together in the future.
Drum and bass thrives on community, and you've built one that’s both musically and thematically strong. How have people responded to the fusion of Star Wars and DnB?
Since starting my journey as The bounty-hunting DJ, the response has been amazing. The amount of times I have heard, “why didn’t I think of that?” is crazy. A few people told me early on that the idea is way too niche and that they don’t think many people will be interested. Just over a year later, I’m proving those people wrong.
I have been steadily building a following across multiple platforms and uniting Star Wars and DnB lovers alike. Even just in the Drum & Bass scene I am becoming “The Star Wars guy”, and that's all I could have really hoped for when I came up with the idea. Everyone I have met at gigs and events has only ever had good things to say about the idea. Even people who don’t really like Star Wars still love the commitment to the character and can still enjoy the Drum & Bass aspect of the performance.
Your sound is heavily inspired by sci-fi, but how would you describe it to someone who’s never heard Jango Kett before?
The only way I could describe my music would be to imagine if the Sci-fi movie genre and Drum & Bass had a baby. The tracks are filled to the brim with movie SFX, dialogue, off-worldly atmospheres and, most importantly, crazy sound design. Expect the unexpected.
What’s been the biggest challenge in carving out your own lane within the drum and bass world?
To be honest, I just try to make music that I enjoy listening to. I’m not too focused on being the best at one certain thing. Just doing my own thing and enjoying myself has allowed me to be creative and try new things. I’d say while my style fits into many categories, It is also very unique, and not many other people are building worlds within their tracks quite like I (try to) do.
It probably also helps that I perform in a full suit of Mandalorian armour.
With such a strong visual and conceptual identity, do you see Jango Kett evolving beyond music—into events, merch, or even collaborations outside of DnB?
I do see Jango Kett evolving. I’m already working on a new set of armour that will be unique to the character of Jango Kett.
I currently sell tracks, dub packs and merchandise on my website that can easily be found via any of my socials, oh and I even sell lightsabers!
Events are definitely something I would like to get started with The Bounty Hunter’s Guild. I believe that would be a great way of showcasing some of the talent that I have been working with over the last 12 months.
Outside of DnB the potential for collaborations is huge! People love to see me all suited up. I even did some charity work in the summer to raise money for a local charity, Pendleside Hospice. That was a great thing to be involved with, and helped a great charity that has helped my family and me personally in the past.
Star Wars is all about deep lore and storytelling. Do you approach your productions with a similar mindset, building a narrative within your tracks?
I’ll quickly talk you through my process.
Firstly, I like to think of a person, place, vehicle, weapon or even just a scene from a film or TV show. Once I have decided on that, I will start collecting sounds that relate to that idea. The main objective is to start building up an environment to get the listener immersed in that little world. From there, I’d just start making some synth and bass sounds that I think would fit into that world and just take it from there really. After this initial process, the rest of the track seems to fall into place very naturally.
If you listen to any of my original songs, you’ll see that most have a theme, and all the sounds within the track usually match that theme. Of course, if I’m making a remix or a bootleg, that might not always be the case, but I do try to include plenty of Star Wars sounds in those ones, so you know it's one of mine.
What’s been your favourite moment so far since launching the project? Any standout reactions from fans or key moments that cemented this as the right path?
I don’t have one specific favourite moment, but the thing that I have enjoyed the most is meeting people at events I’ve performed at. I love walking around in the armour and talking to people about what I’m doing with my music. The reaction I get from people is what makes me want to keep going and keep evolving as Jango Kett.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming releases, collaborations, or plans to expand the Bounty Hunter’s Guild even further?
2026 is going to be a great year for me and the label. As I mentioned previously, I have really stepped it up with releases this year, and we have a couple of compilation albums in the works from some really talented producers. All I can say is, make sure to follow both mine and the label’s social media pages to keep up to date with releases and things that we’ve got going on.
Finally, if you could soundtrack any scene in the Star Wars universe with one of your tracks, which moment would it be and why?
There are not too many of my favourite scenes that I haven’t already made a track around. However, there are a couple that I have been saving for a special occasion like my first festival booking. One of those is the scene from Revenge of the Sith when Anakin wakes up in his Darth Vader suit and asks, “Where is Padmé? Is she safe? Is she all right?” I think the “Noooooooooo” would be perfect for a pre-drop vocal!
Big thanks to Jango Kett for taking the time to speak with us. His fusion of Star Wars and drum and bass is proving to be more than just a gimmick—it’s a fully realised creative vision that continues to build momentum. With The Bounty Hunter’s Guild thriving, new music on the horizon, and even bigger plans in the works, the force is definitely strong with this one. Keep an eye on Jango Kett as he takes his unique sound to new galaxies.
