On February 6 a devasting earthquake struck central Turkey and Northern and Western Syria.  As the second-strongest earthquake to ever be recorded in the region the impact of this natural phenomenon was severe. Catastrophic damage was caused to an area as wide as 350,000 km2  which, for scale, is almost the same size as Germany. Schools, hospitals, and homes were all destroyed with no warning, and it’s been reported that 4 million buildings have been affected. As of 13 March 2023, over 120,000 people have been injured, and more than 55,700 deaths were confirmed with more than 48,400 in Turkey, and more than 7,200 in Syria.

While we may be seeing less of this tragedy on the news, the survivors in this region are still in desperate need for help. Motion Bristol have announced that they will be running a fundraiser for the British Red Cross Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal on April 1.
