Your new single "Soul Magnétique" is set for release on July 18th. What can fans expect from this track, and how does it reflect your identity as a Jungle and Liquid DNB producer?
“Soul Magnétique” is a soulful, liquid funk drum and bass track infused with felt pianos, vinyl-toned guitars, liquid basslines and percussion-driven jungle breaks. It features a sound that moves beyond traditional liquid DNB or jungle into something more globally rooted and funk-soul driven. The track altogether reflects my journey across four countries, my upbringing in a musical family, and influences from soul, jazz, hip hop, Indian classical, and DNB which seamlessly flow into the track.
You’ve always aimed to create music that takes listeners on a journey. What was the main inspiration or feeling you wanted to convey through "Soul Magnétique"?
I wanted to create a warm, cinematic experience for the listener by carefully achieving a fine balance of tension and release, call and response, grit and soulfulness, classical yet modern all flowing seamlessly into each other like a well-crafted story. This song intends to make a listener feel a sense of rhythm, groove, harmony and warmth. It’s music meant to lift your spirit and stay with you, whether you’re driving, studying, dancing, reading, working out or winding down late at night while on your headphones.
Your sound blends hard-hitting breaks, pulsating basslines, uplifting melodies, ethereal vocals, and a touch of Hip Hop. How do these elements come together in a special way on "Soul Magnétique"?
I approach every song like when a chef creates a new recipe, where each ingredient has its own flavor, but it’s the right blend of elements that makes it truly unforgettable.
“Soul Magnétique” brings a variety of textures and flavours together naturally, paying homage to the shared roots of jungle and hip hop while reimagining them through a modern, soulful and global lens.
With releases on labels like DNBB Digital, Kush Records, and Ledge Sounds, and a growing international presence, how do you see "Soul Magnétique" contributing to your artistic journey and solidifying your place in the Jungle and Liquid DNB scenes?
This track adds a new layer to my sound, more jazzy, soulful, and rooted in funk. It’s a nod and tribute to the Jazzsticks aesthetic and a tribute to legends like Paul SG, Decon, Flowrian, Dave Owens, Leniz and Humanature. It reflects music I have grown up to, what I am heavily influenced by now and where I’m heading. I do hope to explore this area more seriously in the future and this song, I believe helped me develop my production blueprint to go deeper into this sub-genre and aesthetic.
Coming from Bangalore and already gathering a global audience, is there any specific scene or audience you’re hoping to reach with "Soul Magnétique" — whether in Europe, Asia, or South America?
My goal is to reach listeners across borders and across timezones, whether it is the UK, Europe, India, Asia, South America or USA. Having lived in four different countries throughout the world, I’ve seen how music bridges our differences. I truly believe “Soul Magnétique” carries that international spirit and crosses borders — a truly global drum and bass sound, grounded in connection.
Huge thanks to Mr. Sham G for sharing his story and vision, and a massive thank you to Mystific for running the interview. Soul Magnétique is out 18 July on all major platforms.
