Sub City EP by Exposure – Full Review & Analysis

Exposure steps up for his Dispatch Recordings debut with the Sub City EP, a tribute to the city that raised him. Rooted in Bristol's deep drum and bass heritage, the four tracks draw from late night sessions, cracked speaker cones and the raw energy of a city where basslines bleed through every wall.

Opener Doom Scroll sets a gritty tone, all tight percussion and shadowy atmosphere, designed for smoke-filled rooms and weighty systems. Membrane, a standout collaboration with Screamarts, dials up the tension with precision engineering. It's sparse, icy and surgical, with pressure that creeps up before slamming you sideways.

The title track Sub City hits next. With sweeping pads, earthmoving subs and cinematic pacing, it feels like a love letter to the city itself. Rounding off the EP, Already There slows things down slightly without losing intensity, offering depth and introspection through controlled drumwork and layered textures.

This is more than a calling card. It's a fully formed statement. Exposure delivers a sound that is both physical and personal, paying tribute to Bristol while carving his own space in its lineage.

The Sub City EP is serious Dispatch business and a powerful debut from Exposure.
