Quartz returns to Metalheadz with Interloper, a body of work years in the making and a testament to persistence, isolation, and the quiet force of creative evolution. Sparked by an invitation from Goldie in 2018 to deliver a series of releases for the label, the album gradually took on a life of its own, reflecting Elliot Garvey’s shifting mindset and surroundings until it became something deeply personal.

There has always been a quiet unease in Garvey’s productions, not overtly dark but atmospheric in a way that lingers. Interloper continues that tension: layered, patient, and precise. It is not a record that demands attention but one that rewards it. Each track unfolds carefully, revealing finely balanced textures and a sense of space that speaks to years of refinement.

Quartz’s creative approach remains uniquely his own. Avoiding the noise of constant promotion, he has built his reputation on substance rather than visibility. Distorted percussion, sculpted basslines, and immersive sound design define the record, all tied together by a subtle thread of tension. Ganzfeld moves with stark propulsion, while Skeng explores dense atmospherics, both illustrating his ability to balance form and emotion with precision.

Growing up in Cardiff, away from London’s established drum and bass network, Garvey developed through instinct and persistence. Record shops became classrooms, and intuition guided his evolution. That independence runs throughout Interloper, a release that feels club-ready yet remains introspective and raw. It stands as an unfiltered reflection of an artist refining his craft in his own time and on his own terms.

The title Interloper reflects Garvey’s relationship with the scene itself: present, influential, yet content to remain at its edges. In an era driven by immediacy, his patience feels almost rebellious. The first single Skeng arrives on 31 October 2025, followed by a vinyl sampler on 21 October, with the full album landing on 5 December. This is Quartz at his most complete, a producer whose restraint and precision reaffirm the power of quiet innovation.
