Usual Suspects, a pioneering drum and bass collective from the United Kingdom, gained prominence in the late 1990s with their dark, atmospheric sound and cutting-edge production techniques. The group, consisting of Carl Hovland (Keaton), Laurent Dean (MC Ryme Tyme), and Chris Jarman (DJ Pressure), became synonymous with the techstep subgenre, which dominated the drum and bass scene during this period.

The trio first rose to fame through releases on Renegade Hardware, a label renowned for championing the harder and darker side of drum and bass. Their debut track Shrapnel, released in 1999, quickly became a genre classic, showcasing their knack for creating tense, cinematic soundscapes infused with powerful basslines and intricate rhythms.

Following this success, Usual Suspects continued to deliver influential tracks such as Killa Bees, No Escape, and Doorway.
