There is a certain kind of liquid tune that tries to feel weightless and ends up drifting. Ima Artist doesn’t quite let itself do that. It floats, but there is always something holding it in place underneath.
Released on 29 April 2026, the single sits at the front of AIIME C’s upcoming Up in the Air EP. Produced by Cloubee and backed by Youth Music NextGen support, it keeps things direct. No label push, no over-framing, just a track that feels close to how it was written.
The drums are clipped and tidy. Not soft, not aggressive, just consistent. They do not swing too far either way, which gives the rest of the track a stable base to sit on. You could blend this for a while without it pulling attention too early, which is useful in the right moment.
The vocal is where things get more interesting. It sits slightly above the mix, but not in a way that demands focus. More like it is running alongside everything else. There is a distance to it, almost like it is being observed rather than pushed forward. That suits the subject matter. Deadlines, pressure, the grind of trying to make something out of limited time. It does not oversell it.
There is a point midway through where the track could easily open up into something bigger. It doesn’t. It holds back. That restraint is doing more work than a bigger drop would. It keeps the tone consistent and stops the whole thing from tipping into something more predictable.
The synths are light but not decorative. Airy pads, a few higher-end details that flicker in and out, but nothing that clutters the space. You can hear the intention to keep it breathable. That also means it will translate differently depending on where you hear it. On headphones, the detail sits closer. On a system, it becomes more about the groove and less about the layers.
In a set, this is not your switch-up track. It is the one you reach for when things need levelling out. Early doors, or that stretch where you want to keep people moving without forcing it. It holds a line without trying to steal the moment.
As a lead single, it says quite a lot without saying it loudly. There is a clear sense of identity in how it is put together, and just as importantly, what it chooses not to do. If the rest of Up in the Air keeps that same discipline, it will land properly.
