Dark Sun by Nymfo – Full Review & Analysis
It was a 50/50 chance that Nymfo was going to get on with Total Science. Would he feel a kinship, or a follicular rivalry? Baldness solidarity or hair envy? Who knows how the cookie crumbled—but it’s clear from the evidence that these men get along like a house on fire. Because here’s Nymfo once again on CIA Records, and once again, it slaps.
The Dark Sun EP is a neat three-tracker, but there’s nothing slight about it. It opens with the title track featuring Rider Shafique, and it’s an instant standout. His weighty vocal delivery cuts through the haze like a prophet in the fog, with Nymfo’s production rolling steady beneath—a taut, dubbed-out riddim that’s as meditative as it is menacing. It’s a tune built for eyes-down sessions, where every word lands like it matters.
One More Thing strips things back for a solo mission. This one’s a straight-up roller: crisp hats, eerie atmospherics, and a low-end groove that snakes and flexes without ever shouting for attention. There’s a subtle craft to it, the kind of tune you catch yourself rewinding halfway through because of some clever little switch you almost missed. Pure DJ ammo.
Closing things out is a long-overdue VIP of Something Tells Me with Riya, and it’s a beauty. Where the original brought tenderness, the VIP version leans into the contrast between Riya’s graceful vocals and a darker, more pressurised backdrop. Nymfo doesn’t overcook it—he gives her space to breathe, while toughening the drums and twisting the bassline just enough to make it bite. It’s a love letter with a blade tucked inside.
Three tracks, three moods, one artist doing exactly what he does best. Dark Sun doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel—it just keeps it rolling at the perfect pressure.
