Heist returns to Playaz Recordings with his latest body of work, the Flying Crane EP—a statement release from a producer whose influence stretches deep into the DNA of modern Drum & Bass. Out on 17 October 2025, this four-track collection captures both the precision and flair that have made Heist a cornerstone of the scene for over two decades.
The title track, Flying Crane, sets the tone immediately. Fusing Jump Up muscle with Jungle’s raw percussive energy, it’s built for the ravers—complete with a cheeky Kung-Fu film sample that nods to the classic era while keeping its sound firmly future-facing. Expect reloads when this one drops.
Next up, Fingers sees Heist flex his production chops with an aggressive, tech-infused bassline and expertly layered sound design. It’s intense, unapologetic, and perfectly crafted for the frontlines of the club. By contrast, Meddlers pays homage to the wobble-heavy sonics of mid-2000s Drum & Bass, complete with triumphant horns and a bassline that demands a pull-up. Pure energy from start to finish.
Closing the EP, Grifters strips things back to the essentials. Rolling breaks and weighty low-end pressure combine for a timeless Jungle stepper that’s both understated and devastatingly effective—a reminder of why Heist remains one of the genre’s most respected technicians.
From his early collaborations with Taxman and Pleasure through to landmark cuts like Return of the Dubplate Killa alongside DJ Hype and Daddy Earl, Heist has consistently proven his versatility and commitment to the craft. The Flying Crane EP is yet another reminder of why he’s regarded as one of the most dependable and inventive names in Drum & Bass.
