Playaz Recordings

Founded by DJ Hype and Pascal in the early 2000s, Playaz Recordings has become one of the most influential imprints in drum and bass. Known for its rowdy dancefloor energy and commitment to heavyweight production, the label carved out its own lane with a signature sound that blends jump-up grit with undeniable musicality.

Operating out of London, Playaz was built on a foundation laid by its predecessor Ganja Records. It quickly became a home for some of the scene’s biggest names, including DJ Hazard, Taxman, Sub Zero, Original Sin, and Tyke. The label’s core identity has always been tied to club culture, from its long-running residency at Fabric to its infamous warehouse tear-ups.

With a discography packed full of anthems and a reputation for discovering and elevating new talent, Playaz helped shape the sound of 2000s and 2010s DnB. Releases like Hazard’s Bricks Don’t Roll, Taxman’s Scan Darker, and Original Sin’s Therapy helped define the era. At the same time, DJ Hype’s encyclopaedic dubplate knowledge and razor-sharp selection cemented the brand as a go-to for serious selectors.

More than two decades in, Playaz continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. Recent releases under the Return of the Dubplate Killa series signal a new chapter that blends nostalgia with modern pressure. Whether it’s uncovering fresh blood or unleashing unreleased gems from the vault, the label remains a vital force in drum and bass.
