Set Speed / Procedure introduces Karnal to Dispatch Limited with two tracks built around pressure, width and movement rather than overworked drama. There is weight here, but the release works because the details keep shifting: siren-like echoes, vocal cuts, small electronic bleeps and low-end bite that carries force without clogging the mix.
Set Speed opens with a long riser that leans into a jungle-shaped sense of anticipation before the drop snaps into place. The drums are crisp and direct, rolling with enough urgency to keep the track lively without losing control. Underneath, the sub has a saw-edged texture sitting above it, giving the bassline a rougher surface while still leaving room for the percussion to cut through.
What gives the track its character is the space around the main elements. Wide echo effects stretch across the stereo field, while small sci-fi bleeps and siren touches sit inside the reverb rather than crowding the centre. It makes Set Speed a fun, energetic listen, but still useful in a set. There is enough impact for a heavier room, and enough movement to avoid feeling locked in one gear.
Procedure takes a slightly deeper route. The intro is more atmospheric, with a cinematic, foley-like soundscape that gives the track more air before the bass arrives. The stereo image feels wide and open, then the low-end starts to whomp underneath with a wobbling movement that gives the tune its weight.
The reggae-style chord strikes over the top add a loose, off-centre feel, while the tight break work keeps it grounded in something older and more rugged. There is a nice dissonance running through it, not overly harsh, but enough to keep the groove tense.
As a pair, the release gives Karnal a strong first outing on Dispatch Limited. Set Speed brings the sharper, more immediate energy, while Procedure digs into moodier bass pressure and old-school break detail. Both tracks sound club-ready without smoothing away the rougher edges that make them interesting.
