Finnish producer Mineral makes his Metalheadz debut with METHXX041, a deeply atmospheric four-tracker that draws heavily from the golden era of jungle while maintaining the clarity and weight of modern production. Known for his textured, break-driven sound, Mineral delivers a cohesive EP that feels both timeless and finely tuned for today’s deeper selectors.
Opening cut Shido sets the tone with haunting pads and phased drums, slowly building into sharper amen breaks and a heavy, grounded bassline. It captures that classic early-hours energy, restrained but unmistakably powerful.
Shinra follows with a more minimal intro, where sparse percussion and subtle punch lead into rolling reese bass and layered breakbeats. The track swells into a full-bodied monster rhythm, driven by a loud ride cymbal that cuts through the mix with precision. Vocal stabs and fills bring colour to its otherwise brooding core.
Third track Shaolin begins with ethereal pads and percussive flourishes that echo steel drums, before dropping into a classic jungle formation. Chopped breaks and clean bass stabs give it momentum, while the percussion continues to evolve in intricate patterns.
Closing track Shiden leans into reverb and reversed sounds to create a cavernous feel. Fast hats, deep kicks and a laughing sample lend it both movement and character, rounding off the EP with style and weight.
Each tune stands on its own, but together they form a tight, atmospheric journey through modern jungle. METHXX041 is a fitting first entry for Mineral on Metalheadz, and one that will no doubt draw attention from DJs and heads alike.
