Lawrence Hughes, professionally known as Keaton, is a British drum and bass DJ and producer. Growing up on the south coast of England, he developed an early interest in music, starting as a hip-hop DJ at the age of 11. By 14, he began producing music, and at 17, he performed at Bournemouth's Opera House. Pursuing his passion further, Keaton moved to London to study sound engineering, where he met Carl and Chris, leading to the formation of the group Usual Suspects.
Usual Suspects gained recognition with tracks like Killa Bees, Doorway, Spawn, and Shrapnel, establishing themselves in the drum and bass scene. Keaton later co-founded Universal Project with Ruxspin, Scandal, and Nitrox, releasing notable tracks such as The Craft.
Throughout his career, Keaton has collaborated with various artists, including Dom & Roland, Loxy, Ink, Dylan, Gridlok, Echo, and Hive. His partnerships led to influential tracks like Twisted City with Dom & Roland, Haters with Loxy, and Man vs. Machine with Hive and Gridlok.
In 2004, Keaton established his own label, Refuge, further contributing to the drum and bass community. His dynamic DJ sets and innovative productions have solidified his reputation as a respected figure in the genre.
