Omni Trio: Drum and Bass Biography, Releases and Upcoming Events

Robert Haigh, better known as Omni Trio, is one of the most influential figures in the evolution of drum and bass. Hailing from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Haigh initially made a name for himself in the experimental and ambient music scenes during the early 1980s. Under aliases such as Sema, he explored intricate soundscapes and minimal compositions before transitioning into electronic music.

In the early 1990s, Haigh adopted the Omni Trio moniker and became a pioneer of the emerging drum and bass and jungle scenes. His early EPs, including Mystic Steppers and Renegade Snares, showcased his signature blend of breakbeat precision, ethereal atmospheres, and melodic piano lines. The track Renegade Snares remains one of the most iconic drum and bass anthems to this day.

Omni Trio's 1995 debut album, The Deepest Cut Vol 1, solidified his status as a key innovator within the genre. This was followed by critically acclaimed albums such as Haunted Science, Skeleton Keys, and Even Angels Cast Shadows. These releases defined the intelligent drum and bass movement, pairing emotive melodies with intricate drum programming and lush sonic textures.

Haigh concluded the Omni Trio project in the mid-2000s, marking the end of an era for one of drum and bass's most important contributors. He later returned to his ambient roots, releasing a series of piano-focused albums under his own name. Despite stepping away from drum and bass, his influence remains deeply embedded in the genre's DNA, inspiring generations of producers and listeners alike.
