Reprazent is a pioneering drum and bass collective that exploded onto the British music scene in the late 1990s. The brainchild of DJ and producer Roni Size, the act comprises a diverse line-up of musicians that has included Onallee, rapper Bahamadia, MC Dynamite, and DJ Krust. Formed in Bristol, the group marked a significant departure from the individualist, isolationist production of many of their D&B peers, favouring instead a collective approach that valued live instrumentation and performance.

The group's debut album, New Forms, was released in 1997 through Size's Full Cycle label and Talkin' Loud in the UK. The breakthrough double album was an outstanding success; a complex, multi-faceted expression of D&B that embraced jazz, funk, and hip-hop influences. The hit single, Brown Paper Bag, shook up the drum and bass world with an irresistibly jazzy beat and soulful saxophone, winning the 1997 Mercury Music Prize. This established Reprazent's reputation for propelling D&B music into mainstream awareness. The exploration of live percussion, deep basslines, delicate, punctuated synths, and rhythmic MCing, defined their sound and laid a blueprint for live D&B performances.

Reprazent toured extensively off the back of New Forms, delivering explosive live performances that reflected the high-octane energy of their recorded material. Where D&B had often been seen as an arm of rave culture, best enjoyed in dark clubs and at raves, the band presented it as a sophisticated, multi-layered form of high-art. Their live shows were multi-sensory experiences that combined lighting and visuals with their signature sound, creating an immersive, enveloping rave environment which engaged fans in a way seldom seen in the genre.

Over the course of their career, Reprazent has been nominated for several awards and collaborated with a wide array of artists across different genres. Their immeasurable influence on the scene can be seen in the rise of drum and bass bands that followed, like Pendulum and Rudimental, which have carried their torch. Following a hiatus after their second album In the Møde, the band regrouped in 2008 for a world tour, once again showcasing their unique take on live D&B. Through the years, Reprazent remains as an influential beacon of creativity, illustrating how the integration of live elements can uplift and transform electronic music. Their music continues to be celebrated, cementing their place as one of the drum and bass genre's most impactful acts.
