The introduction immediately establishes the mood through delayed vocal stabs, sweeping pads and warm piano chords that carry a subtle jazz influence. Reversed vocal harmonies gently pull each phrase forward, creating a natural sense of movement while the arrangement takes its time to unfold. Rather than rushing to the drop, Dealing Cards allows its musical ideas to breathe, giving the opening a cinematic quality.
When the drums arrive, the track opens up without losing its laid-back character. Snappy percussion, an infectious hi-hat groove and a restrained wobbling sub bass provide the foundation, while the vocal harmonies expand both melodically and across the stereo image.
