VTO Records continues the rollout for its A New Beginning 5 Year Anniversary project with the second and final album sampler, led by a brand new cut from one of the label's longest-standing artists. Today, Drum & Bass UK is proud to premiere TRCD – Confused Mind.
Opening with a cinematic science-fiction atmosphere, Confused Mind wastes little time establishing its mood. A driving arpeggiated synth immediately creates a sense of forward momentum, carrying the listener through an extended introduction that steadily layers tension without rushing towards the drop. Rather than relying on constant escalation, TRCD allows the arrangement room to breathe, making the payoff all the more effective.
When the track finally lands, it does so with authority. A sharp, snappy snare cuts through the mix as a rolling neurofunk bassline takes over, while the persistent arpeggiated motif continues beneath the surface, almost taking on the character of a synthetic pizzicato. It's a subtle production choice that keeps the groove moving and gives the track a distinctive identity beyond sheer weight alone.
The breakdown expands the palette further, introducing additional synth layers that reinforce the cinematic feel established at the beginning. Once again, TRCD resists the temptation to rush the arrangement, allowing the atmosphere to develop naturally before driving back into the track's relentless momentum.
Confused Mind leads the second sampler from A New Beginning, VTO Records' forthcoming 5 Year Anniversary double album. The release also features a powerful VIP rework of Kaizen Flow's TLM alongside an updated VIP version of Diode's Radial Bomb, offering one final preview before both anniversary albums arrive on 31 July.
