Temper wastes little time establishing its character. Shimmering guitar phrases and wide, atmospheric synths open the track before the rhythm section arrives with crisp drums that immediately tighten the focus. Rather than dropping into a static groove, Nautika keeps the low end moving. The bassline builds gradually before shifting pitch, while a solid sub anchors everything beneath it, giving the record weight without overwhelming the finer details higher up the mix.

That sense of movement continues throughout. The lead synths never feel fixed in place, instead evolving through subtle filter cutoff and resonance changes that give them a flowing, almost organic quality. At points they take on a slightly retro, sci-fi character that recalls classic Doctor Who soundtrack textures, adding another layer of personality without distracting from the groove. It is a small production detail, but one that helps the track stand apart from more formulaic liquid releases.

The arrangement is equally well judged. Rather than relying on constant energy, Nautika allows the track room to breathe. The breakdown expands into a wide reverberant soundscape, introducing fresh effects and additional textures before easing naturally back into the main groove. Nothing feels rushed, and each section develops logically from the last, maintaining momentum while continuing to introduce subtle variations.

Jasq's contribution fits comfortably within that framework, complementing the production rather than dominating it. The focus remains on the interplay between melody, atmosphere and rhythm, with every element occupying its own space in the mix. The clean drum programming, evolving bass movement and careful use of automation reward repeat listens, revealing details that are easy to miss on the first pass.

Temper is another assured outing from Nautika for Soulvent Records. It balances musicality with dancefloor function, offering enough weight for a club system while retaining the melodic depth that works just as well away from it. The result is a thoughtful, well-crafted roller that demonstrates careful attention to arrangement and production without ever feeling overworked.
