DJ Trace

Duncan Hutchison, known professionally as DJ Trace, is a British drum and bass DJ and producer who has been instrumental in shaping the techstep subgenre. His journey into electronic music began in the late 1980s, frequenting London's iconic Heaven nightclub, where he was influenced by pioneering DJs such as Fabio and Grooverider. This early exposure to the burgeoning rave scene inspired him to pursue a career in music.

In 1995, DJ Trace released The Mutant Remix, a reimagining of T Power's Mutant Jazz, which became a seminal track in the development of techstep. This release showcased his innovative approach to production and solidified his reputation within the drum and bass community. Following this, he collaborated with artists like Nico, Ed Rush, and Fierce on the acclaimed Torque LP for the No U-Turn label, further contributing to the genre's evolution.

Beyond his production work, DJ Trace founded the label DSCI4 in 1999, providing a platform for both established and emerging artists in the drum and bass scene. The label has been pivotal in releasing high-quality tracks from influential producers, continually pushing the boundaries of the genre.
