HLZ is the artist name of Emilio, an Italian drum and bass producer who has lived in London since 2007. Before focusing on solo material as HLZ, he was part of Need For Mirrors, placing him close to a particular strain of stripped, groove-led drum and bass.
His music often works through contrast: light against dark, clean rolling movement against rougher analogue texture. The drums stay purposeful, the bass pressure sits low, and the arrangements tend to leave room for mood rather than filling every gap.
HLZ has released through Metalheadz, Dispatch, Integral, Sun and Bass Recordings, and Warm Communications. His Metalheadz catalogue includes the Eternal EP, the Amethyst EP on Metalheadz Platinum, and an official remix of Goldie’s Crystal Clear for the Saturnz Return anniversary edition.
In 2026, HLZ returns to Metalheadz with his debut album All My Life, a 16-track project built across five years.
