Pendulum, an Australian drum and bass band, is widely recognised as one of the most influential and groundbreaking acts in electronic music. Famed for their fusion of drum and bass, rock, and electronic elements, Pendulum has left an indelible mark on the global music scene, pushing boundaries and redefining genre conventions.
Formed in Perth in 2002, the group was founded by Rob Swire (vocals, synthesizers, and production), Gareth McGrillen (bass guitar and production), and Paul "El Hornet" Harding (DJ and production). Later joined by Peredur ap Gwynedd (guitar), KJ Sawka (drums), and Ben Mount (MC Verse), Pendulum's expanded line-up allowed them to deliver dynamic live performances and develop their distinctive hybrid sound.
Pendulum gained widespread acclaim with their 2005 debut album, Hold Your Colour. Featuring iconic tracks such as Slam, Tarantula, and the title track Hold Your Colour, the album is celebrated as one of the best-selling drum and bass records of all time. Its success brought the genre to mainstream audiences, firmly establishing Pendulum as trailblazers in the scene. Their second album, In Silico (2008), saw the band pivot towards a rock-infused style, with chart-topping singles like Propane Nightmares and Granite, further cementing their global prominence.
In 2010, Pendulum released Immersion, an album that debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart. Tracks such as Watercolour, Witchcraft, and The Island highlighted their ability to balance intricate production with anthems built for stadiums. Following a hiatus in 2012, the band returned triumphantly in 2016, delivering standout performances at festivals such as Ultra Music Festival and Reading & Leeds. In 2020, they marked their studio comeback with singles like Driver and Nothing For Free, proving their enduring relevance.
Renowned for their electrifying live shows, Pendulum combines stunning stage visuals, live instrumentation, and Rob Swire’s commanding vocals to deliver unforgettable performances. They have headlined some of the world’s most iconic festivals, including Glastonbury, Download Festival, and Coachella. Their innovation and genre-defying music continue to inspire artists across multiple genres, solidifying Pendulum’s status as a cornerstone of the global electronic music scene.
