Etherwood (real name Edward "Woody" Allen) is a British record producer, singer-songwriter, and guitarist from Lincoln, England. Known for his emotive and melodic drum and bass productions, Etherwood has become a prominent figure in the genre since his debut in the early 2010s. His music combines lush melodies with intricate beats, often incorporating live instrumentation and heartfelt lyrics.
Edward discovered drum and bass in the late 1990s, but it wasn't until 2012 that he released his first production. His early work included a remix of Lana Del Rey's "Video Games" alongside Jakwob, for which he also played guitar in Jakwob's band. His official debut came later that year, with the track "Give It Up" featured on the Hospital Records compilation Sick Music 3. His emotive style was quickly recognized, and his track "Spoken" appeared on Hospitality Drum & Bass 2013 in January 2013.
In November 2013, Etherwood released his self-titled debut album on Hospital Records' Med School imprint. The album was well received, entering the UK Albums Chart at number 91, the UK Dance Chart at number 4, and the UK Indie Chart at number 11. The success of his debut earned him significant airplay on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, as well as recognition on the Billboard "Next Big Sound" chart. Etherwood also won the "Best Newcomer DJ" and "Best Newcomer Producer" awards at the 2013 D&B Arena Awards.
Etherwood's second album, Blue Leaves, was released on 4 September 2015, entering the UK Albums Chart at number 47. The album was preceded by the singles "You'll Always Be a Part of Me," "Souvenirs" (feat. Zara Kershaw), and "Light My Way Home" (feat. Eva Lazarus).
Following Blue Leaves, Etherwood released two singles, "Bear's Breeches" (feat. Anile) and "Fire Lit Sky," in 2017. His third album, In Stillness, followed in 2018, continuing his exploration of deep, emotive drum and bass sounds.
Throughout his career, Etherwood has collaborated with notable artists in the scene and received widespread recognition for his ability to blend soul, jazz, and electronic influences within his drum and bass tracks. He continues to be regarded as one of the genre’s leading talents, known for both his production skills and engaging live performances.
