Kafra

DJ Kafra, born David Migliaccio, is a French DJ, producer, and label manager from Marseille. Active since the mid-1980s, he began his career in 1985 as a selecta (reggae DJ) for Massilia Sound System, contributing to the rise of the rub-a-dub style in southern France. His early involvement in the reggae scene laid the foundation for his seamless transition into jungle and drum and bass genres, showcasing his versatility and deep understanding of electronic music's evolving landscape.

Throughout his extensive career, DJ Kafra has been celebrated for his dynamic DJ sets and broad musical repertoire. In 1993, he toured with Les Nomads, a techno and jungle sound system, further expanding his musical horizons. By 1996, he founded the collective Selecta Crew, regularly performing alongside top international DJs. His ability to blend various electronic styles has earned him a reputation for delivering high-energy performances that captivate audiences, allowing him to remain relevant in the ever-changing electronic music scene.

In addition to his live performances, DJ Kafra co-founded the independent label Marseille Zulu Records, through which he has collaborated with artists such as FBI Marseille, MC Akro, Ranking Diximal, and Pupa Orsay. His discography reflects his commitment to the drum and bass genre, with notable releases including the Stalag 13 EP (2011), 13000 (2018), and Reverberating Tunes (2021). These works highlight his innovative approach to production, combining intricate rhythms with deep basslines to create tracks that resonate with both enthusiasts and newcomers to the genre.

Beyond his solo projects, DJ Kafra has collaborated with artists such as Jamalski, contributing to tracks like Drum'n Bass Kulture and Get Mash Up. These collaborations underscore his influence within the drum and bass community and his dedication to pushing the genre's boundaries. With a career spanning several decades, DJ Kafra's enduring passion and innovative spirit continue to inspire and shape the electronic music landscape.
