Paul Scott Levy, professionally known as General Levy, is a British ragga deejay celebrated for his dynamic contributions to the UK's urban music landscape. Born on 28 April 1971 in Park Royal, London, he was raised in the vibrant communities of Harlesden and Wembley, areas rich in cultural diversity. From an early age, Levy was immersed in a milieu infused with reggae music and Black culture, profoundly shaping his artistic trajectory.
At just 12 years old, Levy began crafting his own lyrics, and by 14, he co-founded his first sound system, Third Dimension, with friends. His burgeoning talent soon led him to collaborate with prominent figures in the reggae scene, including producers Lloydy Crucial and Robbo Ranx. These partnerships yielded underground hits such as Tell Me Why and You Can't Hurry Love, featuring vocalist Junior Dan.
Levy's career reached new heights with his work at Fashion Records, where he released a series of influential tracks like Original Length and Strength, Heat, Breeze, The Wig, and Champagne Body. His debut album, Double Trouble (1991), a collaboration with Jamaican artist Capleton, solidified his presence on the international reggae stage.
In 1994, Levy achieved mainstream success with the track Incredible, produced alongside M-Beat. The song soared to number eight on the UK Singles Chart, becoming an anthem within the jungle music scene and earning a gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry. Its enduring popularity led to features in films such as Ali G Indahouse and various advertising campaigns.
Throughout his extensive career, General Levy has maintained his relevance by continually evolving his sound and collaborating across genres. His dynamic stage presence and innovative artistry have left an indelible mark on the music industry, inspiring both contemporaries and emerging artists alike.
