Arcatype, the British drum and bass trio consisting of Karl Mann, Justin Mann, and Tommy Emrich-Mills, has been carving a distinct niche within the genre since their emergence in 2015. Renowned for their deep, atmospheric soundscapes, the group draws inspiration from a broad spectrum of influences, including jungle, techno, ambient, and jazz. Their meticulous production style reflects a dedication to quality and an ability to weave emotion into their music.

The trio first garnered attention with their debut release on Ingredients Records, establishing themselves as purveyors of rolling, stripped-back drum and bass. Subsequent releases on esteemed labels like C.I.A. Records and Vandal Records solidified their reputation for pushing the boundaries of the genre. Notable works such as the Tempest EP and Mind Loop EP showcase their finely tuned sound design, marked by intricate rhythms and immersive textures.

In 2020, Arcatype ventured into new territory by launching their own label, introducing the track Shenzhou Return as their inaugural release. This piano-driven liquid roller exemplified their smooth, sophisticated style and their desire for creative autonomy. Their ability to seamlessly blend deep, melodic elements with an underlying groove has continued to resonate with fans and fellow producers alike.

After a brief hiatus, the trio made a triumphant return in 2024 with the Roll Call EP on Carbon Music, reaffirming their place in the drum and bass scene. Known for their dynamic live performances and forward-thinking approach to production, Arcatype remains a vital force, consistently pushing the genre into uncharted territory while maintaining their signature sound.
