DJ Fresh, born Daniel Edward Stein on 11th April 1977, is a pioneering British drum and bass and dubstep producer and DJ. Widely recognised as one of the genre's most influential figures, DJ Fresh played a crucial role in bringing drum and bass into the mainstream while pushing the boundaries of electronic music production.
He first gained prominence as a founding member of the legendary drum and bass group Bad Company UK, alongside Darren White (dBridge), Jason Maldini, and Michael Wojcicki (Vegas). The group was responsible for iconic tracks such as "The Nine" and "Planet Dust," which remain staples of the drum and bass scene.
After leaving Bad Company UK, DJ Fresh embarked on a successful solo career, achieving commercial success with a series of chart-topping singles. His 2011 single "Louder" featuring Sian Evans became the first-ever drum and bass track to reach number one on the UK Singles Chart. This was followed by another chart-topping hit, "Hot Right Now," featuring Rita Ora, which further cemented his status as a mainstream success.
DJ Fresh's influence extends beyond production; he co-founded the influential drum and bass label Breakbeat Kaos with Adam F, a platform that helped launch the careers of artists such as Pendulum and Sigma. His third studio album, Nextlevelism, released in 2012, included a string of successful singles and collaborations with artists from various genres.
Despite announcing his retirement from live performances in 2016 due to health reasons, DJ Fresh continues to produce music and contribute to the electronic music scene. His legacy as a trailblazer in drum and bass remains firmly intact, and his innovative approach to production continues to inspire artists worldwide.
