Tenor Fly, born Jonathan Sutter on 7th July 1967 in Brixton, London, was a pioneering British singer, rapper, and songwriter. Known for his powerful voice and energetic performances, he rose to prominence during the ragga movement of the early 1990s. His collaborations with Rebel MC, Top Cat, and Barrington Levy became iconic contributions to jungle and drum and bass.
Tenor Fly was also a key member of Freestylers, contributing to hits like B-Boy Stance and Tarantula (with Pendulum). Tracks such as Roughneck Fashion and Pose Up remain classics, reflecting his ability to bridge reggae, dancehall, and jungle seamlessly.
His lyrical versatility and commanding stage presence made him a beloved figure in the drum and bass community. Beyond his solo work, he was celebrated for his collaborative spirit, leaving an indelible mark on the genre.
