Skibadee, born Alphonso Bondzie in London in 1975, was a pioneering British MC closely associated with drum and bass and jungle. Active from the mid 1990s, he became widely known through his work with pirate radio and appearances on the rave circuit, including key London stations such as Kool FM, helping shape the fast chat MC style integral to jungle and drum and bass culture. He was a founding member of SAS (Skiba And Shabba), his long running partnership with fellow MC Shabba D, which became one of the scene’s most recognised double acts.
Across his career Skibadee featured on numerous drum and bass releases and compilations, working with a range of producers and labels. His Spotify profile lists him as an artist with over 18,000 followers, reflecting his enduring influence. Skibadee passed away in February 2022, prompting tributes across the UK drum and bass community, where he is remembered as a foundational voice and a major influence on subsequent generations of MCs.
