High Contrast

High Contrast, born Lincoln Barrett on 18 September 1979 in Penarth, Wales, is one of the most influential figures in the drum and bass scene. Known for his signature blend of soulful melodies, uplifting vocals, and intricate drum patterns, High Contrast has played a pivotal role in shaping the liquid drum and bass subgenre.

He rose to prominence in 2002 with the release of his debut album True Colours on Hospital Records, featuring standout tracks such as Return of Forever and Global Love. The album was widely acclaimed for its innovative approach and emotive depth, setting the foundation for his enduring legacy in the genre.

In 2004, High Contrast released his second album, High Society, which solidified his status as a leading producer in drum and bass. Tracks like Racing Green and Basement Track became anthems, showcasing his ability to merge dancefloor energy with melodic sophistication.

His third album, Tough Guys Don't Dance (2007), further demonstrated his production prowess, with hits like If We Ever and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang receiving extensive airplay and DJ support.

Beyond his solo work, High Contrast has also collaborated with global icons such as Underworld, Tiesto, and Adele, and has produced official remixes for artists like Coldplay, London Grammar, and Eric Prydz. His remix of Hometown Glory by Adele remains one of his most celebrated works.

In 2012, High Contrast contributed to the soundtrack for the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, alongside Underworld and Chemical Brothers, further cementing his reputation as a boundary-pushing artist.

His 2017 album Night Gallery marked a shift towards a more expansive sound, blending drum and bass with elements of house and electronica, while still retaining his signature style.
