AK1200, born Dave Minner, is a pioneering figure in the American drum and bass scene. Hailing from Orlando, Florida, AK1200 has been instrumental in introducing the genre to audiences across the United States and remains one of its most enduring and respected ambassadors.
Emerging in the late 1980s, AK1200 began his career as a DJ in the burgeoning rave scene, spinning breakbeat and hardcore before transitioning to jungle and drum and bass. His debut mix album, Fully Automatic (1995), was one of the first drum and bass compilations released in the US, showcasing the genre's raw energy to a wider audience.
Throughout his career, AK1200 has been celebrated for his dynamic mixing and ability to blend the heaviest basslines with intricate drum patterns. His production credits include collaborations with artists like Dynamite MC and tracks such as Drowning and Junior’s Tune, which highlight his versatility and deep understanding of the genre.
Beyond his studio work, AK1200 has toured extensively, performing at iconic festivals such as Ultra Music Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival, as well as intimate underground events. As a founding member of the Planet of the Drums collective alongside Dieselboy, Dara, and MC Messinian, he has played a critical role in uniting and strengthening the American drum and bass community.
