Audio, the alias of Gareth Greenall, is a British drum and bass producer and DJ hailing from Redhill, Surrey. Renowned for his aggressive, high-octane productions, he has been a significant figure in the neurofunk and techstep subgenres since the early 2000s. His work is characterised by relentless energy, intricate sound design, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of drum and bass.
Greenall's journey began as a studio engineer at Alphamagic, where he honed his technical skills. He first gained attention as part of the trio Resonant Evil, releasing tracks on labels like Renegade Hardware and Moving Shadow. Transitioning to his solo project, Audio, he released his debut album To the Edge of Reason in 2008 on Tech Freak Recordings, marking the start of a prolific solo career.
Audio's subsequent albums, including Genesis Device and Soul Magnet, solidified his reputation for delivering hard-hitting tracks that resonate with both underground enthusiasts and mainstream audiences. His tenure with Virus Recordings, under the mentorship of Ed Rush and Optical, further elevated his profile, leading to global tours and a dedicated fanbase.
In 2014, Audio signed with RAM Records, releasing the album Beastmode, which showcased his evolving sound and production prowess. Demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit, he founded Snake Pit Records in 2019, providing a platform for his music and collaborations. Additionally, his partnership with Ed Rush as the duo Killbox has produced innovative tracks that continue to influence the drum and bass landscape.
With a career spanning over two decades, Audio remains a dynamic force in the genre, consistently delivering tracks that combine technical mastery with visceral impact.
