DJ Chill

Chill is a veteran drum and bass DJ and producer whose journey began while studying Fine Art in Belfast, where he first caught the bug for the genre’s raw energy and rhythm. His unmistakable blend of dirty, heavy funk has earned him a respected place across the UK, Ireland, and Europe’s underground circuits, with sets known for their weight, drive, and dancefloor intent.

In 2000, Chill made a breakthrough by becoming the first ever winner of the Knowledge Magazine UK Mixtape competition. This early recognition propelled him into a series of high-profile residencies, most notably at Ghettoblaster in Dublin’s Temple Bar Music Centre, a staple night in the Irish drum and bass calendar during the 2000s.

A passionate promoter as well as a performer, Chill co-founded STEP DnB alongside longtime collaborator Playford. The event broke attendance records and drew a roll-call of iconic guests from the genre’s golden era, including Shimon, Silver, Mark XTC, Red One, and Futurebound. STEP’s bookings read like a who’s who of early 2000s drum and bass, showcasing artists from renowned labels such as RAM, Valve, Hard Leaders, and Infrared.

In more recent years, Chill has focused increasingly on production, crafting a distinct sonic identity rooted in the tough, tech-driven sound of the late 90s and early 00s. Drawing influence from pioneers like Ed Rush and Optical, his tracks are laced with rugged amen edits, weighty subs, and the unmistakable DNA of the Virus sound, all reimagined through a contemporary lens. His output pays homage to the past while continuing to push forward within modern drum and bass.
