E-Sassin, born Eric Hull, is a trailblazing American drum and bass producer and DJ based in Los Angeles, California. His musical roots trace back to the late 1970s, when he played drums in progressive rock and jazz fusion bands, drawing inspiration from legendary acts such as Rush, Yes, and King Crimson. During the 1980s, he transitioned into heavy metal, influenced by bands like Metallica and Queensrÿche, before discovering his passion for electronic music in the early 1990s.
In 1989, E-Sassin was introduced to Los Angeles’ burgeoning rave culture, which ignited his interest in electronic dance music. By 1992, he had self-released a techno album, marking the start of his journey as an electronic music producer. This exposure soon led him to jungle and drum and bass, which would become the defining sound of his career.
Recognising the lack of domestic drum and bass labels in the U.S., E-Sassin founded Sound Sphere Recordings in 1996, providing a platform for his innovative productions. His work is renowned for its fusion of heavy metal influences with dark, aggressive drum and bass elements, resulting in a distinctive and hard-hitting style. Tracks like "Symptom" and his remix of Dieselboy’s "Invid" exemplify his unique approach to production.
Over the years, E-Sassin has collaborated with numerous artists and contributed to respected labels, solidifying his reputation as a pioneer of the dark drum and bass sound on the West Coast. With a career spanning decades, he continues to inspire the drum and bass community through his production, remixes, and electrifying performances.
