EIJER is the solo alias of Glenn Herweijer, one half of the influential drum and bass duo Artificial Intelligence. Launching the project in 2024, Herweijer sought to explore a more personal and versatile sound, drawing from years of unreleased material and fresh inspiration gathered during time spent in New Zealand. The name "EIJER" is derived from the latter part of his surname, marking a new chapter in his storied career.
The debut release under this moniker, Expansion, arrived on Metalheadz and showcased Herweijer's range as a producer. The EP features three tracks: Black Daruma, a Detroit-inspired roller with deep sub-bass; Expansion, blending enchanting melodies with heavy rhythms; and False Dreams, a modern liquid drum and bass piece. This release signified a departure from the signature Artificial Intelligence sound, embracing both the darker and more melodic aspects of the genre.
EIJER's versatility is further exemplified by the single Call Me, a collaboration with Satl featuring vocals from Brandy Haze. Released on The North Quarter, the track merges R&B influences with contemporary liquid drum and bass, highlighting Herweijer's ability to seamlessly blend genres. Additionally, forthcoming releases on 1985 Music promise to delve into deeper, more experimental territories.
With EIJER, Herweijer continues to push the boundaries of drum and bass, offering a fresh perspective while honoring the genre's roots. His commitment to innovation and quality cements his status as a pivotal figure in the evolving landscape of electronic music.
