Future Prophecies, the Norwegian drum and bass duo comprising Richard Animashaun Thomas and Tony Anthun, have been influential figures in the genre since the late 1990s. Known for their innovative fusion of electronic beats with live instrumentation, they have significantly contributed to the evolution of drum and bass music.
Between 1999 and 2006, Future Prophecies released over twenty singles on esteemed labels such as Certificate 18, Renegade Hardware, Breakbeat Kaos, Moving Shadow, and Teebee's Subtitles Recordings. Their 2005 album, Warlords Rising, featured notable tracks like Dreadlock, which was nominated for 'Tune of the Year' on Drum&Bass Arena, and Black Dragon, showcasing a sample from Norwegian jazz legend Karin Krog.
The duo's collaborative efforts extended to working with artists across various genres, including world music artist Mari Boine and Norwegian jazz musicians Nils Petter Molvær and Bugge Wesseltoft. These collaborations highlight their versatility and commitment to blending diverse musical styles within the drum and bass framework.
Future Prophecies have performed globally, sharing stages with prominent acts such as Pendulum, Chase & Status, Sub Focus, and Teebee. Their live performances are distinguished by a hybrid approach that combines DJ skills with live musicianship, often incorporating instruments like saxophone and flute, challenging traditional boundaries within the genre.
