Gein is a drum and bass group originating from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was formed in 2004. The original lineup consisted of Weston B. Means (The Butcher), Adam M. Darby (Abel), and Radislov Eremija (Saint). The group’s name draws inspiration from the infamous Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein, whose gruesome crimes influenced iconic horror films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Gein burst onto the drum and bass scene in 2005 with their debut release, the Street Sweeper E.P., on the renowned Moving Shadow Records. The record showcased their signature sound, blending heavy breaks and dark, aggressive basslines, and quickly established them as a force within the genre. Collaborations with notable artists like Counterstrike and Symbl further solidified their reputation for crafting hard-hitting and visceral drum and bass tracks.
In addition to their production work, Gein founded two influential labels, Bad Chemistry Recordings and Habit Recordings. These platforms have allowed the group to release groundbreaking music while also supporting other artists in the darker realms of drum and bass. Their commitment to this niche sound has garnered them a dedicated following and cemented their legacy within the scene.
Despite changes in their lineup over the years, Adam M. Darby (Abel) remains an active member, continuing to uphold Gein’s distinct style. Their influence on the drum and bass genre endures, inspiring new generations of producers and fans while maintaining their position as pioneers of the darker side of drum and bass.
