PsychoFreud, born Anders Figenschow on 6 May 1977 in Oslo, Norway, is a distinguished DJ and producer celebrated for his fusion of reggae, jungle, and drum and bass. Growing up in Oslo's eastern districts, including Lindeberg, Stovner, Vestli, and Furuset, he was deeply influenced by the vibrant reggae scene, which became a cornerstone of his musical identity.
Embarking on his musical journey in the late 1980s, PsychoFreud initially delved into house and hip-hop production. In the 1990s, he gained recognition as the producer for the rap group Oslo Most Wanted, known for their distinctive and provocative style. However, his enduring passion for reggae led him to establish Vikings Champion Sound in 1998, a reggae sound system that later expanded to include members like DJ Vicious E. This venture underscored his commitment to integrating reggae's soulful rhythms with the energetic beats of jungle and drum and bass.
Throughout his career, PsychoFreud has collaborated with notable artists such as Daddy Freddy, Demolition Man, and Top Cat, infusing authentic reggae vocals into his productions. His discography features tracks like Murda Charge with Daddy Freddy and Warrior featuring Demolition Man, exemplifying his seamless blend of genres. His performances have graced international stages, including events in the UK, USA, France, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, and Belgium, where his dynamic sets have captivated audiences.
Beyond his musical endeavors, PsychoFreud's personal experiences, including overcoming homelessness and embracing Buddhism, have profoundly shaped his artistic expression. His resilience and dedication to his craft continue to inspire both listeners and fellow musicians within the global drum and bass community.
