Collette Warren, a singer and songwriter hailing from Birmingham, England, has become a prominent figure in the drum and bass scene. Influenced by genres such as Motown, jazz, reggae, soul, funk, and 90s R&B, she began singing at a young age, nurtured by her musical family background. In 2007, she relocated to London to pursue her artistic ambitions and was soon invited by MC Tali to join her live jazz band as a backing singer, performing at esteemed venues like Ronnie Scott’s and the Jazz Café. This experience bolstered her confidence and set the stage for her solo career.
Throughout her career, Warren has collaborated with numerous leading producers in the drum and bass genre. Notably, she has worked with Calibre, DJ Marky, Skeptical, Roni Size, and Technimatic, contributing her distinctive vocals to a variety of tracks. In November 2018, she released her debut solo EP, Hidden Lines, on Innerground Records, which reached number 5 in the Beatport charts.
In addition to her recording achievements, Warren has made significant contributions to the live music scene. She has performed at events worldwide, including the renowned SUNANDBASS festival, and has been involved in projects such as hosting a weekly livestream with Ben Soundscape during the 2020/2021 lockdowns, which earned them a nomination for Best Livestream at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards 2021. Furthermore, she launched her own podcast, 'The Mic Diaries', interviewing prominent vocalists and MCs in the drum and bass community.
Warren's influence extends beyond her performances and recordings. She co-founded the band Collette The Dots, showcasing her versatility by exploring genres like reggae, soul, and funk alongside drum and bass. Her dedication to the scene is also evident through her involvement in initiatives aimed at supporting women in drum and bass, contributing to a more inclusive and diverse music community.
