Concord Dawn, a trailblazing drum and bass duo originating from New Zealand, has left an indelible mark on the global music scene. Formed in 1999 by Matt Harvey (Matty C) and Evan Short, the duo quickly established themselves as innovators within the genre, blending hard-hitting beats with melodic and cinematic elements. Their name, drawn from the Star Wars universe, reflects their dynamic and forward-looking approach to music.
Their self-titled debut album, Concord Dawn (2000), introduced their unique sound to the world and laid the foundation for a prolific career. However, it was their second album, Disturbance (2001), that propelled them to international recognition, with tracks like Morning Light becoming anthems in the drum and bass scene. Known for its haunting vocals and driving bassline, Morning Light remains one of their most celebrated tracks, solidifying their reputation as genre pioneers.
In addition to their releases on their own label, Uprising Records, Concord Dawn has worked with renowned imprints such as Metalheadz and Hospital Records, further expanding their influence. After Evan Short departed in 2010, Matt Harvey continued the Concord Dawn legacy as a solo act, releasing critically acclaimed works like Air Chrysalis and The Enemy Within. These projects demonstrated his ability to evolve the Concord Dawn sound while staying true to its roots.
Renowned for their electrifying live performances, Concord Dawn has captivated audiences at major festivals and clubs worldwide, from Europe to Asia and the Americas. Their ability to balance hard-hitting dancefloor tracks with more introspective pieces has earned them a dedicated global fanbase. As pioneers of drum and bass in New Zealand, Concord Dawn’s influence continues to resonate, inspiring a new generation of artists while maintaining their status as legends of the genre.
