Joakuim, a French drum and bass producer and DJ from Marseille, has been active in the electronic music scene for over a decade. Initially involved in the free party and soundsystem culture focusing on Tekno, he transitioned to drum and bass after being introduced to the genre by friends in Mexico City. Influenced by artists like Alix Perez and Zero T, Joakuim developed a deep appreciation for the liquid subgenre.
After studying sound engineering and music production in London, Joakuim returned to Marseille to establish his studio. His music is characterised by deep, rolling basslines, intricate drum patterns, and soulful melodies, often incorporating jazzy elements. This distinctive style has led to releases on labels such as Fokuz Recordings, Celsius Recordings, and his own imprint, Sable Noir Records.
Notable works in Joakuim's discography include the Flow LP (2021), which showcases his versatility and depth as a producer. Additionally, his Coldtones EP (2022) features tracks like "Late Night Jungle" and "Digin," exemplifying his ability to blend atmospheric soundscapes with dynamic rhythms. His collaborations, such as the Jazz Collaborations EP with Anthony Kasper and RoyGreen & Protone, further highlight his commitment to the genre's evolution.
