Katharsys is a French drum and bass duo known for their uncompromisingly dark and cinematic approach to the genre. Formed by Hugo Louison and Tom Jacques in 2001, Katharsys have become staples in the harder spectrum of D&B, crafting intense, high-impact tracks that blend elements of neurofunk, techstep, and crossbreed. Their name, derived from the Greek word for purification through extreme emotion, aptly reflects their visceral, high-energy style.
Their early releases on labels such as Habit Recordings and Guerilla Recordings quickly caught the attention of the global underground. As their sound evolved, they released on a number of influential imprints including Barcode Recordings, PRSPCT, and Othercide Records, with standout tracks such as Things Fall Apart, Fury Road, and Zombie Cats showcasing their blend of cinematic sound design and brutal sonic textures.
Katharsys are also founding members of the experimental project 3RDKND alongside Donny and Forbidden Society, pushing the boundaries of extreme drum and bass. Their live sets are known for their relentless pace and immersive atmosphere, making them regulars at festivals and events focused on the harder end of the D&B spectrum.
With a legacy spanning more than two decades, Katharsys continue to innovate while staying true to their dark, uncompromising roots. Their music remains a benchmark for producers and fans seeking the most intense and forward-thinking expressions of drum and bass.
