Lemon D, born Kevin King in 1974, is a highly influential jungle and drum and bass DJ and producer from Brixton, South London. Emerging in the early 1990s, he quickly gained recognition for his innovative contributions to the genre, releasing tracks on iconic labels such as Metalheadz, V Recordings, and his own Planet Earth imprint. His work is defined by a distinctive blend of dark, techy beats and intricate rhythms, which have played a significant role in shaping the evolution of drum and bass.
In collaboration with long-time partner Dillinja, Lemon D co-founded Valve Recordings and co-designed the Valve Sound System, the first sound system purpose-built for drum and bass. Their partnership produced seminal works, including the 2002 album Big Bad Bass, which highlighted their signature production style and cemented their status as pioneers in the scene.
Lemon D has explored various facets of electronic music under several aliases, including Afro Kid, DJ Lemon Drop, and Souljah. His extensive discography features numerous classic releases that have become staples within the drum and bass community, showcasing his versatility and creative vision.
After a period of relative quiet, Lemon D made a notable return to the music scene in 2024, releasing new material that has been well-received by fans and critics alike.
