MC Woody (also known under his producer alias XNX) is a New Zealand MC, vocalist and label owner whose career spans more than two decades across drum & bass and hip hop. Renowned for his dynamic live presence and technical flow, Woody first made his mark as the live MC for State of Mind, performing on their landmark Live! album and touring extensively at festivals such as Homegrown and Coromandel Gold. His role with the group helped redefine the MC as a central voice in drum & bass performances rather than just a hype man.
As a recording artist, Woody has collaborated with heavyweight names including Concord Dawn, Mt Eden, L.A.O.S, Sick Cycle and JabZ MC, with standout tracks such as Hemlock, What’s Below and Phoenix. His own solo projects, including the hip hop-led Don’t Cry For Me EP, reveal a more introspective and narrative-driven side of his artistry.
In 2025, Woody launched Woodysworld Records (WWR), a fully independent imprint built around an artist-first ethos and the immersive “Woodyverse” concept. Through the label and his work as XNX, he pushes the boundaries of production, mastering and narrative-driven music, while also mentoring emerging talent through remix contests, writing camps and a thriving online community.
With a legacy rooted in both New Zealand’s underground and the global drum & bass stage, MC Woody continues to evolve as an artist, innovator and scene-builder—bridging live performance, recorded output and label leadership with a vision that keeps him at the forefront of contemporary bass culture.
