Misanthrop, born Michael Bräuninger, is a renowned drum and bass producer and DJ from Hamburg, Germany. He became captivated by the dark, intense sounds of drum and bass in the early 1990s, which inspired him to begin producing his own tracks under the moniker Misanthrop. His music serves as a medium to express personal experiences of human interactions, aiming to break through conventional boundaries and set new, unconventional grounds.
In 2008, Misanthrop co-founded the record label Neosignal alongside fellow German producer Phace. This collaboration has led to numerous successful releases, including the album From Deep Space in 2009 and the Motor EP Part I in 2013. Their distinctive sound has been influential in shaping the neurofunk subgenre of drum and bass.
Misanthrop's solo work is equally impressive, with releases on esteemed labels such as RAM, Blackout, Division, Shogun Audio, and OWSLA. His self-titled album, Misanthrop, released in 2016, showcases his innovative approach to production, blending complex rhythms with dark, atmospheric soundscapes.
