Phil:osophy is a collaborative drum and bass project formed by British producers Philth (Phil Robinson) and Phil Tangent (Phil Winn). United by their passion for rich, emotive musicality, the duo has crafted a distinctive sound that blends intricate drum patterns, soulful melodies, and deep basslines, contributing significantly to the liquid drum and bass subgenre.
The partnership began to gain recognition with the release of their Heavy Hearts EP in October 2017, showcasing their ability to merge atmospheric elements with rolling rhythms. This was followed by the Searching for Meaning EP in May 2018, further establishing their reputation for producing tracks with infectious melodic bass patterns and euphoric atmospherics.
In March 2023, Phil:osophy made their debut on Dispatch Recordings with the two-track single Guarded / Old Soul. These tracks exemplify their signature style, featuring reflective vocals, melancholic atmospheres, and deep bass complemented by rolling percussion. Continuing their momentum, they released the First Light EP in May 2023 on Integral Records, which included collaborations with artists such as Pyxis and Sense MC, highlighting their versatility and commitment to pushing the boundaries of their sound.
Beyond their studio work, Phil:osophy has contributed to the drum and bass community through collaborations with other artists. Notably, they featured on Degs' debut album with the track Head Trip, released in 2020, demonstrating their ability to blend their style seamlessly with vocal performances. Their music has been supported by prominent DJs and has received airplay on various platforms, reflecting their growing influence within the scene.
