Bulletproof, born Jay Monds in Auckland, New Zealand, was a pioneering figure in the drum and bass scene, renowned for his contributions as a DJ, producer, and mentor. His career, spanning over two decades, was marked by relentless passion and innovation, establishing him as one of New Zealand's leading drum and bass artists.

In the early 2000s, Bulletproof gained international recognition for his futuristic neurofunk style, with notable releases that showcased his intricate production skills. His collaborations with artists such as The Upbeats further solidified his influence within the genre. Beyond his production work, Bulletproof was celebrated for his dynamic DJ performances, which captivated audiences both in New Zealand and globally.

As a mentor and advocate for the drum and bass community, Bulletproof played a pivotal role in nurturing emerging talent. His label, Cyanide Recordings, provided a platform for both local and international artists, contributing significantly to the growth of the scene. In 2021, he launched the "History of New Zealand Drum & Bass" podcast, documenting the genre's evolution and its key contributors, further cementing his legacy as a custodian of the culture.

Tragically, Jay Monds passed away on 29 September 2022, at the age of 46, after suffering a severe brain bleed. His passing was a profound loss to the music community, with many remembering him as a "loveable rogue" who paved the way for up-and-coming artists in the local scene. Bulletproof's enduring impact on drum and bass continues to inspire both artists and fans, reflecting his unwavering dedication to the genre.
