Jaguar Skills, born Matthew David Carter in Welwyn Garden City, England, is a British DJ and producer renowned for his high-energy, genre-defying mixes and masked persona. Since emerging in 2002, he has captivated audiences with his rapid-fire, cut-and-paste style, seamlessly blending hip hop, drum and bass, dubstep, house, and more into cohesive, electrifying sets.
His career began with a mixtape for fashion label Maharishi, leading to residencies at Jade Jagger's Jezebel parties in Ibiza, Russia, and Hong Kong. Jaguar Skills gained widespread recognition with his 2006 mixtape 1979–2006: A Hip-Hop Odyssey – 800 Tracks in 45 Minutes, which was lauded by BBC Radio 1Xtra and Radio 1. This success paved the way for his regular "10 Minute Mash Up Mix" on The Trevor Nelson Show and a quarterly slot on BBC Radio 1's In New DJs We Trust.
Jaguar Skills has released acclaimed compilations, including Toolroom Knights Mixed by Jaguar Skills and Jaguar Skills & His Amazing Friends Volumes 1 and 2 on Ministry of Sound. His production work spans various genres, collaborating with artists like Lupe Fiasco and Tempa T, and remixing tracks for The Prodigy and Devlin. Notably, he reconstructed the entire Def Jam catalogue for the 30 Years of Def Jam project and reimagined Nervous Records' hip hop back catalogue.
In 2013, he launched The Jaguar Skills Shooooow on Capital XTRA, further cementing his status in the UK music scene. Known for his anonymity, always performing with a mask, Jaguar Skills emphasizes the music over personal identity, allowing his innovative mixes and productions to speak for themselves.
